Statistical Metrics

There are many aspects of performance that can be measured yet why do we find a need to collect all this information? Does more data (in this case) numbers, give us a better answer? That depends on the quality & quantity of this data. Take the quote from Albert Einstein below:

‘Not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted’

How much does summary match-day data tell us about a game? Shots, Shots on target, Goals, Passes, Possession, Tackles & Yellow and Red cards…what do we do with this information to make it relevant and usable?
